Property does not come cheap in Collioure but it makes for a good investment and is relatively easy to let out throughout the year and easy to resale should the need ever arise.

We have spotted a new development of apartments that are for sale in the middle of Collioure from €185,000 for the 1 bedroom apartments through to just under €300,000 for the biggest and best two bedroom apartments.

We have also spotted a rare village house on the market for €237,000. These cottages do not come up that often and as they were once the homes of the local fisherman they are filled with character and charm. Most of these types of cottages come with some kind of courtyard and slowly but surely their fittings and fixtures are being updated to the kind of standards that foreign owners have come to expect.

Collioure itself is a thriving fishing village with a very busy tourist market. There are 4 local beaches and if you head just down the road to Argeles Plage you will find miles and miles of excellent sandy beaches.

The village is about as close as one can get to Spain and all around you see the heavy Catalan influence. From the food that you eat to what is sold in the local shops.

The local village market is held on a Wednesday and Saturday morning. You will find an excellent selection of things to buy at the market, from local arts and crafts through to fresh local food produce.

Some good local wines are produced in Collioure and the area is renowned for producing deep, heavy table reds. The local grape variety that is used most often is Mourvedre but Syrah and Grenache Noir also account for a large proportion of the wine blend.

Perpignan is the closest airport and is about 30 minutes away but you can also fly into Carcassonne, Montpellier, Barcelona and Girona Airport
