Property in Faugeres - A Guide to Faugeres

If you like your wine, then you surely will have heard of the town of Faugeres. Faugeres is an old village dating back to the twelfth century, with it’s Abbey standing proudly as testament to this.

Faugeres produces some wonderful wines known the world over. Red, white and rose all available direct from independent producers throughout the region.

Although Faugeres is a very old village, recent years have seen the growth of new built Faugeres property. It seems that a lot of French locals have given up their old village houses for new built villas on the edge of the village. This is good news for foreigners looking to buy property in and around the village as they now have the choice of new and old. Generally speaking the Brits still prefer the old village houses, and with such charm and character screaming out from every stone wall, who can blame them.

Not long ago I saw a typical Faugere property owned by a Brit who used it for his holidays. This was a village house laid out over three floors with a large cellar dominating the ground floor, living space on the first and loft are on the top. He had employed a local builder to convert the loft area and a couple of months later he had added a large master bedroom with en suite bathroom. It’s exactly this type of undiscovered space that attracts people to the old houses. Some of these unconverted lofts are so big that converting them can result in another three or even four bedrooms. Not to mention a couple of bathrooms.

Being around 90km from Montpellier airport, Faugeres is close enough to make a short trip worthwhile. About half an hour in the car will see you in the town of Beziers, while less than an hour’s driving will bring you to the Mediterranean Sea.
