Lodeve Property

Property in Lodeve - A Guide to Lodeve

With approx 7500 inhabitants, Lodeve is a fair size town right in the middle of the Languedoc.

Lodeve property starts at around 50,000 – 60,000€ for a one bed apartment needing some updating. It is possible to find whole houses for less than that but these are few and far between and will need so much work that I wouldn’t advise purchasing one unless you’re an experienced builder or you know an experienced builder.

For most people, property in Lodeve will mean a starting price of around 120,000€ for a house that is in good condition. Outside space will be possible but more likely at 150,000€. Increase the budget to around 300,000€ and I’ve seen large 300sqm period houses with gardens. Some of these have even got large garages/barns that could be turned into even more accommodation.

The centre piece of Lodeve is the cathedral of St Fulcran, an imposing building that dates back to the thirteenth century. Inside the cathedral you’ll find a magnificent crystal chandelier that was a gift from Queen Victoria in 1860.

Lodeve’s centre has a good selection of bars and restaurants as well as the usual selection of local shops selling arts and crafts goods including jewellery, ceramics and sculpture. Lodeve was once a well known centre for textiles. Today this has evolved into the manufacture of large, hand made carpets.

Located just off the new A75 motorway, Lodeve has easy access to Montpellier airport, which is approx 65km away. From here you can fly to Stansted with Ryanair or Gatwick with British Airways. Both routes have a flight time of around two hours.
