Property in PalajaThe village of Palaja is a smallish place covering approx 15 sq km. It’s population of around 2000 are known as Palajanais, or Palajanaises. In terms of property, Palaja is virtually entirely made up of houses. In fact, apartments in Palaja account for less than 1% of all it’s residential properties. Palaja property is mostly made up of owner occupier houses. The rental market for year round rentals here is fairly small, with tenanted properties only making up around 14% of the total residential market. The biggest concentration of property in Palaja is the larger houses of four or more bedrooms. This section makes up over half the residential market here. Next come the three bedroom houses, with an approximate 33% share. I recently saw a very pretty village house with three bedrooms for sale at 180,000€ Two bedrooms, one bedrooms and studios make up the rest. For a small village you won’t be too badly off if you want to buy a newspaper or a baguette. Palaja has a grocers, bakers, butchers, post office, hairdressers, tabac, chemist, cafe and two Doctors. Add to this the usual smattering of local builders, plumbers and electricians and you shouldn’t be left wanting. And remember. If you do need something that you can’t get in the village. You’re only 7km from the centre of Carcassonne. This also means that you have very easy access to flights from the UK and Ireland via Ryanair through Carcassonne’s international airport.
